Morne Morkel, the fast bowling coach for the Pakistan Cricket Team, has tendered his resignation six weeks ahead of the scheduled expiration of his contract. The announcement comes on the heels of Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, where the team failed to secure a spot in the highly anticipated semi-final.

Morkel, who assumed the role in June this year as part of a broader reshuffle of the coaching staff, played a pivotal role in nurturing the talents of some of Pakistan’s most promising fast bowlers. His tenure saw the return of Mickey Arthur as the team director, signaling a renewed focus on strategic coaching and development.

The South African’s stint with the Pakistani team had moments of triumph, notably during the series against Afghanistan and the early stages of the Asia Cup. It was during this period that Morkel was at the helm, guiding three of the world’s most in-form fast bowlers – Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. The trio showcased their prowess on the field, establishing themselves as formidable assets for the team.

However, the recent disappointments in the Cricket World Cup seem to have prompted Morkel’s decision to step down from his coaching role. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially confirmed his resignation, leaving fans and cricket enthusiasts in anticipation of what this means for the team’s future strategies.
